Bullying is by far the most statistically common situation that
your child is going to face. It is
estimated that nearly 77% of students suffer the negative
consequences of bullying each year. Challenges of low self
esteem, poor concentration in school, are absenteeism are all
statistically much higher in children that are bullied.
Long
term, the results get even more dismal.
Children that are
bullied in grade school have been shown, later in life, long after
the bullying is over, to be at higher risk for depression and poorer
self esteem when compared with other adults that were not bullied.
Here are ACTIONABLE STRATEGIES that will make YOU the hero in your child's
life!

Dear Parent and Friend,
Being a parent
today requires a higher intellectual involvement than in the
past. There are so many more ways for your child to be put at
risk. Society is very different than it was when you grew up.
Compare the way children communicate today compared to 20 – 30
years ago. Contrast shows like the Brady Bunch to the popular
shows targeted to the same audience today. The language, the
expectations of children and the way they interact with each
other and other adults is completely different.
Compare and
contrast sports stars of today with sport stars of the past.
While I am a huge sports fan, 20% of the athletes setting a bad
example are getting 80% of the news headlines and media
attention.
Couple this
with the fact that values, and social etiquette in many homes is
severely lacking and at no greater time in the history of the
world do children have more free access to poor examples via the
200 channels of cable TV and the multitude of choices they have
via the internet.
As parents, I believe our highest responsibilities include
keeping our children safe and providing them with the correct
information so that they can lead wonderfully happy healthy and
successful lives.
This can not
be delegated to the schools or can’t be left to chance where
you simply hope that your child isn’t targeted. Parents must
accept that it is their responsibility to teach their
children how to successfully deal with conflict when it
happens. Raising healthy children that can successfully
handle the inevitable challenges that will arise is a must
so that they are able to realize their true potential. The
great thing is that it doesn’t require a huge investment of
time or money, provided that strategies you employ work.
